Senior David Spennacchio (Fairport, NY/Fairport) scored three goals and added five assists to lead SUNY Geneseo (11-4) into the second round of the 2004 NCAA Division III Men's Lacrosse championship tournament with a 19-4 win over Endicott College (12-7).
The Knights led 2-1 early in the first quarter before reeling off seven straight goals on their way to an 11-2 halftime advantage. Geneseo controlled play as junior Aaron Giffin (Manlius, NY/Fayetteville Manlius) won 10 of his 12 faceoffs and classmate Jason Zimmerman (Plainview, NY/Plainview) collected eight of his 14 for the game.
Sophomore Jack Ryerson (Rochester, NY/Brighton) scored four goals, seniors Mark Engel (Rochester, NY/Irondequoit) and David Hilfinger (Tully, NY/Tully) netted three goals apiece and junior Chris Stock (Penfield, NY/Penfield) handed out three assists for the Knights.
Senior Corey Fox (Weymouth, MA/Weymouth) scored twice for the Gulls and sophomore Kevin Lally (Derry, NH/Pinkerton Academy) had a goal and an assist.
On defense, Geneseo's Ryan McGee (Camillus, NY/West Genesee) scooped five groundballs, senior Andy Howk (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Sutherland) made five saves and allowed three goals in 45 minutes in goal and classmate David Knapp (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua) allowed one goal and stopped two shots in his 15 minutes of play.
For Endicott, senior Matt Bagshaw (Framingham, MA/Framingham) made 12 saves and allowed 18 goals in 52:50, while sophomore Adam Partaledis (Malden, MA/Malden Catholic) allowed one goal in 7:10.
Geneseo will play at Middlebury (VT) in the second round game. This concludes the Gulls season with a record of 12-7.
