BEVERLY, MA - The Endicott College men's basketball team got off to a quick start and went on to derail previously unbeaten Gordon College, 62-47, in a Commonwealth Coast Conference game at Endicott's MacDonald Gymnasium Tuesday night.
The Gulls (4-3, 1-0 CCC) 35-20 halftime advantage and carried that momentum through to their first CCC victory while the Fighting Scots dropped to 5-1 (1-1 CCC). Nemanja Marinkovic (Belgrade, Serbia & Montenegro/Second Baptist School) led all scorers with 14 points to go along with eight rebounds, five assists and two steals while Gary Corbett (Danbury, CT/Danbury) added 12 points, three boards and an assist.
The hosts went on a 12-0 run midway through the first half opening up a 23-8 cushion capped by a Joey Burgos (Lawrence, MA/Lawrence) dunk with 9:58 to play in the half. Burgos finished with four points while Mike Sullivan (Marshfield, MA/Marshfield) added six points and six rebounds.
Endicott shot 51 percent in the first half and 40 percent in the second frame for a total of 46 percent while Gordon was limited to 31 percent shooting in the game. The hosts also forced 17 turnovers on 13 steals - four by Matt George (Dover, NH/Dover), who contributed eight points and two assists.
The Scots were led by Michael Schnackenberg's (South Portland, ME) 12 points and Jerry Logan's (Marietta, GA) 11 points. Jon Marstaller (Naples, ME) added nine points, five blocks and 12 boards while Justin Kaufman (Redding, CT) chipped in eight points and two assists.
Marinkovic helped close out Gordon, scoring eight of the final 10 EC points. The Gulls are back in action at home Thursday night (6) versus WPI and Gordon takes on Salem State Saturday (3).
