SPRINGFIELD, MA - Springfield College senior guard Derek Yvon (East Longmeadow, MA) pumped in a game-high 30 points as the Pride handed Endicott its first January loss, 75-55, Saturday afternoon in non-conference action.
Senior forward Brian Riley (Worcester, MA) put home 20 points and grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds in the win, while the Gulls, despite shooting 46 percent from the floor, turned the ball over 20 times in the loss. Furthermore, the Pride held a 35-25 advantage on the glass and a 14-3 edge in offensive boards.
Springfield led by just six points at intermission but outscored the visitors by 20 in the final 20 minutes to raise its record to 6-13 overall. The victory snapped a seven-game winning streak for Endicott, which fell to 11-6.
Gulls' senior forward Matt George (Dover, NH/Dover) netted a team-high 19 points on 5-of-8 shooting from the field and 5-of-6 from the free throw line. George also dished out a game-high six assists and pulled down five rebounds. Junior forward Nemanja Marinkovic (Belgrade, Serbia & Montenegro/Second Baptist School, TX) shot 70 percent from the field in recording 14 points with six rebounds and senior guard Zach Ellis (Westford, MA/Westford Academy) dropped in 13 points, including four three-pointers, to go along with two assists and two steals.
Endicott travels to Commonwealth Coast Conference rival Gordon College Tuesday night (8).
