BEVERLY, MA - Senior guard Matt George (Dover, NH/Dover) poured in a game-high 29 points, powering Endicott College to an 82-71 win over Roger Williams University on Senior Day at MacDonald Gymnasium.
George shot 8-of-9 from the field and 10-of-11 from the foul line, while dishing out four assists and grabbing six rebounds to help the Gulls secure a Commonwealth Coast Conference home playoff game. Endicott finished the season 16-9 overall and 13-3 in the CCC North Division. The Gulls will host either Curry College or Salve Regina this Tuesday night.
The Hawks wrapped up their season at 12-13 overall and 11-5 in the CCC South Division. They will either be the No. 1 or No. 2 seed in the South Division.
Sophomore guard Gary Corbett (Danbury, CT/Danbury) came off the bench to hit 6-of-10 from the floor for 13 points. He gave the hosts a nice option in the paint while junior forward Nemanja Marinkovic (Belgrade, Serbia & Montenegro/Second Baptist School, TX) dropped in 11 points, pulled down seven rebounds and dished out two assists in the win.
Endicott was plagued by turnovers for the second straight contest. The Gulls turned the ball over 25 times, but shot 50 percent in the first half and 63.6 percent in the second half to earn the victory. The hosts led by just two points at the break, but used an 11-3 run at the start of the second half to put some distance between themselves and the Hawks.
William Barrett (Fairfield, CT/Fairfield) and Brandon Parrish (Lincoln, RI/Lincoln) led RWU in steals with three each. They both finished with six points as well while Geoff Baranger (Fairfield, CT/Fairfield) scored a Hawks-best 16 points. Mike Woolley (Seattle, WA/Nathan Hale) and Chris Cormier (Trumbull, CT/Trumbull) were the only other two RWU players in double figures, scoring 14 and 11 respectively.
Endicott senior guard Zach Ellis (Westford, MA/Westford) contributed nine points, eight in the first half, and sophomore guard Todd Burton (Lynn, MA/St. Mary's) chipped in six points. Freshmen forwards Francis Mayi (Lawrence, MA/Lawrence) and Joey Burgos (Lawrence, MA/Lawrence) each scored five points off the bench and Mayi picked up three blocks.
