Endicott Upends WNE to Remain Tied for Conference Lead

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Freshman midfielder Emily Sawchuk (Cumberland, Maine) tallied a pair of goals to lead Endicott to a 3-0 win over Western New England in a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) contest on Tuesday evening at Golden Bear Stadium. Junior forward Melissa Enright (York Beach, Maine) provided the rest of the offense with a goal and two assists.
 
The Gulls improve to 9-8 overall, pushing their record over .500 after a 1-7 start to the year. Endicott also moves their conference mark to 8-1, stretches their conference winning streak to 8 games and remains tied with university of New England at the top of the CCC field hockey standings.
 
Sawchuk opened the scoring at 12:55 as she tipped in a shot from the arc by Enright on a Gulls penalty corner. The pair struck again just before the half to put Endicott up 2-0 as Sawchuck again got a stick on Enright's shot from the point.
 
Enright then added an unassisted insurance tally in the 61st minute to seal the victory for the Gulls.
 
WNE had its best chance in the 51st minute as sophomore midfielder Jaynie Mueller (Colorado Springs, Co.) ripped a shot that was well stopped by junior goalkeeper Taylor Teixeira (Exeter, N.H.).
 
 Teixeira turned away three shots to earn the shutout win in the cage, her fourth blank slate of the season.  WNE freshman goalie Emily Mastrapaolo (Cazenovia, NY) made five saves on the evening.
 
Endicott held a 14-6 advantage in shots and took advantage of a 10-4 edge in penalty corners.
 
 The Gulls will travel to Nichols on Saturday (Oct. 29) at 12:00 p.m. to close out the regular season.
The Golden Bears Golden Bears, who slip to 4-14 with a 2-6 CCC record, will host Nichols at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday (Oct. 27) in conference play.
