Senior Day Ends in Victory for Endicott Field Hockey

Box Score

BEVERLY, Mass. – On a day in which senior Courtney Dronsfield ( Penfield, N.Y.) played her last regular season home game, the Endicott field hockey team won their seventh straight conference game by defeating Gordon College 5-1 at North Field. The Gulls have overcome a 1-7 start to the season to even their record at 8-8 and continue to sit atop the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) standings with a 7-1 mark.

Forward Hannah Thornberg, one of several juniors who spoke about Dronsfield in a pre-game ceremony, scored twice for the Gulls, winners of seven of their last eight. Thornberg also assisted on the first goal of the game, a stroke from in front of the net by Stacie Teevens (Westborough, Mass.), her first of the year.

Five minutes later, Mackenzie Hurst (Gilford, N.H.) got herself on the score sheet for the first time as a Gull. Hurst would assist on Thornberg's second goal of the game, the fifth for the Gulls, after a penalty corner taken by Teevens in the 57th minute. Thornberg, who now has 14 goals on the season, got her first tally when she lunged after a loose ball and beat Gordon goalie Anna Bury (Huntingtown, Md.) to it before sliding it and herself, into the cage nearly half an hour into the game.

Melissa Enright (York Beach, Maine) added a penalty stroke just a few minutes after halftime to increase Endicott's lead to 4-0. It was the 10th goal of the year for the junior, who becomes the third Gull to post double-digit goals this season.

Junior goalie Taylor Teixeira (Exeter, N.H.) came less than three minutes away from recording her third straight shutout. Ashley Moulton (North Reading, Mass.) scored her first career collegiate goal for Gordon to make the final 5-1 and stop a shutout streak of over 200 minutes for Teixiera, who made six stops on the afternoon.

Bury and Rebecca Smith (Verona, N.J.) split the game in net for the visitors. Bury made one save in the first half, but Endicott scored on the other five of their six shots on goal. The visitors actually outshot Endicott 14-11 (7-6 SOG), while the Blue and Green had a slim margin in penalty corners, 12-11.

Endicott finishes its season with two road contests, a 7:00 pm night affair at Western New England on Tuesday and a Saturday afternoon encounter with Nichols College (1:00 pm). The Fighting Scots, who fell to 7-11, will also play their final two games within the CCC, where they are 2-6. Gordon will travel to Salve Regina on Tuesday for a 3:30 game before hosting Western New England next Saturday at 1:00.
