Gulls Win Fourth Straight Conference Game Behind Enright's Hat Trick

Box Score

WENHAM, Mass. -- The Endicott field hockey team won their fourth consecutive game, all in the Commonwealth Conast Conference (CCC) on Monday, defeating host Gordon College 4-1. Melssa Enright (York Beach, Maine) posted a hat trick for Endicott, who moved to 5-7 overall and 4-1 in the conference, while the Fighting Scots fell to 7-8 overall (2-3 in conference) on the year.

The Gulls claimed the momentum early into the game when Enright netted her first of three on the day just two minutes into the period on an assist from Taylor Matties (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.). After several other quality scoring opportunities, Enright bookended the half by tallying her second on a solo effort with less than two minutes to play before the break.

Having put only three shots on frame during the first stanza, the Scots came out with stronger offensive resolve in the second, resolve that translated into a goal in the 51st minute when Clara Baker (Underhill, Vt.) tipped in a Karli Balmer (Perkasie, Pa.) shot to close the gap to 2-1.

That would be as close as Gordon would get, however, as Endicott freshman Elizabeth LeClair (Wilton, Maine) scored eight minutes later on a pass from classmate Mackenzie Hurst (Gilford, N.H.) and Enright converted a penalty stroke in the 68th minute to complete the hat trick and secure the three-goal win.

Junior Keeper Taylor Teixeira (Exeter, N.H.) posted seven saves in the winning effort for the Gulls, while Anna Bury (Huntongtown, Md.) had a busy day in net for Gordon, turning away 18 shots in the loss.

The Gulls travel to face non-conference Bridgewater State on Thursday, October 13 at 7:00p.m. The Scots look to get back on the winning track as they host Nichols in a CCC tilt on Saturday, October 15 at 1:00p.m.
