Football Set To Face Rowan In NCAA First Round

2013 NCAA DIII Tournament Football Bracket

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -  The field of 32 for the 2013 NCAA DIII Football Tournament was announced Sunday evening, and the Endicott football team drew the Profs of Rowan University in their opening round match. Endicott, 8-2 on the season received an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament after winning the NEFC Championship this past weekend in a 24-0 shutout victory over Salve Regina.

The Profs (8-2) also earned an automatic bid after defeating TCNJ in the New Jersey Athletic Conference Championship. The Gulls and Profs will face off on Saturday, November 23rd at Rowan in Glassboro, N.J.

The Blue and Green will enter the tournament for the second time in program history, the first being in 2010. The same can be said for the Profs as this is also their first time back in the tournament since the 2010 season. The Gulls are coming off a big championship win where they shut down the Seahawks, holding them to 325 total yards on offense, and in return scoring 21 points in the third quarter to claim the title.

On the season the two teams match up evenly statistically, they both ended the regular season at 8-2.  The Blue and Green however out do the Profs in points per game with 37.6, to their 21. Endicott seems to throw the ball more they Rowan as the Gulls average 270.5, to the Profs 138.6. The two squads also have some common opponents in Framingham State and Kean, where the Gulls suffered their only losses on the season in very close contests. Rowan was able to edge both opponents by a slim margin, the closest was against Kean where the Profs just nabbed the 7-6 win.

The Blue and Green are led by seniors Marcell Cooper (Dorchester, Mass.), Greg Dellorco (Franklin, Mass.) and Jason Silva (Palatine, Ill.) and are looking forward to returning to the NCAA Tournament, especially with a class that has been there before and looks to earn their first victory in the big dance in program history.

The winner of the match will face the winner of the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor and University of Redlands
