Western New England Sweeps Endicott On Senior Day, 17-4 & 5-2

BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott baseball team dropped a conference doubleheader to Western New England University by scores of 17-4 (7 inn.) and 5-2 on Saturday evening at North Field.

In a ceremony prior to today's doubleheader, seniors Liam Burke (Westwood, Mass.), Dan Cacciola (Saugus, Mass.), Victor Molle (Peabody, Mass.), Will Bryant (Cumberland, Maine), Kyle Wollman (Berlin, Conn.), Zachary Sultar (Windsor, Conn.), Matt Bald (De Pere, Wisc.), and Kevin Gould (Rollinsford, N.H.) were all honored for their contributions towards the program and the Endicott community.

GAME ONE: Western New England 17, Endicott 4 (7 inn.)

Tied 4-4 in the fifth inning, the Golden Bears broke open the contest with a seven-run frame, which was highlighted by a grand slam from Brian Valeriano (Stratford, Conn.). Meanwhile, Alex Loparco (Riverside, Conn.) also added a two-run shot in the seventh before all was said and done for the Western New England offense.

Golden Bears' starter Bob Hamel (Southwick, Mass.) received the win (4-1) on seven innings pitched, six hits, four runs (all earned), one walk, and a game-high five strikeouts.

GAME TWO: Western New England 5, Endicott 2

Paul Wetmore (Hamden, Conn.) was credited with the win (6-1) via five innings of work, three hits, two runs (both earned), five free passes, and a game-high six strikeouts. Sean Halligan (North Branford, Conn.) also picked up his seventh save of the season behind a scoreless ninth inning (1 HBP, 1 K).

Even at 2-2 in the sixth inning, Aaron Rios (Stratford, Conn.) gave the Golden Bears the lead for good with an RBI single to right field. From there, Western New England added two more runs in the seventh on an error and a wild pitch, while the bullpen held Endicott scoreless the rest of the way.

Meanwhile, Endicott scored its pair of runs in the fifth inning on a Christian Allaire (Sandown, N.H.) RBI single through the right side and a bases loaded walk by Benjamin Schena (Cheshire, Conn.).
