BEVERLY, Mass. – Endicott College athletic trainer Jake Mickey, MS, LAT, ATC, CSCS, CES, PES, has received the Athletic Trainers of Massachusetts (ATOM) President's Award, as announced by the organization last week.
The ATOM President's Award is presented at the discretion of the ATOM Executive Council in order to honor an ATOM member who has demonstrated excellence in the practice of athletic training through dedication, selflessness, hard work, and their contribution to ATOM's mission.
Mickey, who is the first-ever ATOM President's Award winner, also received a Certificate of Honor from Endicott College in May of 2021 for his outstanding services to the community. Both awards are a result of Mickey's swift actions in executing an emergency action plan (EAP) to help revive a member of the Endicott community.
"Obviously, any time you have a favorable outcome after a cardiac arrest is a good day. Jake activated our emergency action plan flawlessly and performed CPR to bring a member of our community back to us,' said Endicott head athletic trainer Abigail Wirtz, MS, LAT, ATC, PES, GTS. "There is a reason we practice these life saving skills annually and Jake did exactly what he has been trained to do. We are all so proud of Jake for his swift actions."
Mickey is currently in his fourth year as an athletic trainer at Endicott. He also serves as an adjunct professor in the Endicott School of Sport Science teaching sport and exercise pedagogy.
