Gulls Earn 2-0 Shutout Victory Over Western New England

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Endicott men's soccer team battled host Western New England University Golden Bears to a 2-0 shutout victory Saturday afternoon on Senior Day at Suprenant Field.

Junior midfielder Robert Hartan (Hebron, Conn.) received a through-ball from sophomore back Bobby Ivatts (Walpole, Mass.) and scored on a breakaway in the 22nd minute.

Freshman forward Fred Marinelli (Burlington, Conn.) scored his first career goal on a double assist from junior midfielder Tyler Johnson (Carver, Mass.) and senior forward Brion Likaj (Salem, Mass.) in the 71st minute.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Senior goalkeeper Nick Weinstein (Trumbull, Conn.) made three stops in goal to improve to 8-4-2, 5-1 CCC as he earned his eighth shutout of the season.
  • Hartan recorded his second goal of the season.
  • Ivatts, Johnson, and Likaj each registered their first assists of the season.

FOR THE FOES

  • Senior goalkeeper Kevin Strobel (Rockland, Mass.) fell to 6-9-0 on the season as he stopped  one shot.
  • Junior forward Troy Remillard (Palmer, Mass.) had two of the team's three shots on goal.
  • The Golden Bears out-shot the Gulls, 10-6.
  • Western New England took eight corner kicks to Endicott's two.
  • The Golden Bears were shut out for the fifth time this season.

NOTES

  • Today's contest saw the Gulls improve to 3-5-2 all-time against the Golden Bears.
  • Endicott earned a hard-fought 3-2 overtime victory last season on 10/17/15 in the most recent meeting before today.

WHAT'S NEXT

Endicott (8-4-2, 5-1 CCC) will wrap up a three-game road stint with its last non-conference match of the regular season at Babson on Sunday, October 16 at 2:00 p.m.

Western New England University (6-9, 3-3 CCC) hosts Curry on Tuesday, October 18 at 3:00 p.m.
