Gulls Fly Past UNE, 2-0, In Regular-Season Home Finale

BEVERLY, Mass. — The Endicott men's soccer team closed out the regular-season home slate with 2-0 shutout of the visiting University of New England Nor'easters Wednesday evening at Hempstead Stadium.

Junior forward Dario Neukom (Palma de Mallorca, Spain) scored his fourth goal of the season (unassisted) to give the Gulls' a 1-0 lead in the 21st minute that they held throughout the remainder of the half.

Freshman forward Evan Couchot (Mason, Ohio) added an insurance goal in the 89th minute on a feed in front of an open net from classmate Xavier Polanco (Salem, Mass.).

The Gulls out-shot the Nor'easters, 28-3, including an 11-3 margin on goal in the match.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Today's match saw senior goalkeeper Nick Weinstein (Trumbull, Conn.) make three saves as he improved to 9-5-2 (6-1-0 CCC) in net.
  • Weinstein and the Gulls' defense have nine shutouts on the year to date.
  • The Gulls improved to 13-4-1 all-time against the Nor'easters, dating back to the 2001 season.
  • Endicott has won the past four meetings, including a 6-0 rout last season on 09/12/15.
  • Endicott went 6-2 at home during the regular season, including a 4-0 showing on the home turf in conference.

  • Sophomore goalkeeper Nate Delesdernier (Niantic, Conn.) stopped nine shots as he fell to 1-4-1 on the season before being replaced by classmate Tom Benoit (Scituate, Mass.) with 9:23 remaining in regulation.
  • The Nor'easters are 1-7-0 on the road this season.
  • UNE has been shut out nine times this season.
  • The Nor'easters have been out-scored 24-9 on the year.
  • UNE has given up eight first half goals and 16 second half goals.

WHAT'S NEXT

Endicott (9-5-2, 6-1-0 CCC) travels to Boston, Mass. to take on Wentworth in CCC action on Saturday, October 22 at 3:30 p.m.

University of New England (3-9-4, 1-5-1 CCC) goes on the road on Friday, October 21 at 4:00 p.m. as the Nor'easters will face Roger Williams in Bristol, R.I.
