Gulls Rise Atop CCC Standings With 2-0 Win At Wentworth

BOSTON, Mass. The Endicott men's soccer team handed host Wentworth Institute of Technology its first loss in conference play, 2-0, Saturday afternoon at a rainy Sweeney Field in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action.

A scoreless first half paved the way for freshman forward Evan Couchot (Mason, Ohio) to net his second career two-goal match with tallies in the the 62nd and 80th minutes as the Gulls rode a second half surge off the foot of their leading scorer to halt Wentworth's unbeaten streak at 12 straight matches.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • The Gulls hold a 11-7-2 advantage in the all-time series versus Wentworth.
  • Senior goalkeeper Nick Weinstein (Trumbull, Conn.) improved to 10-5-2 (7-1-0 CCC) on the season as he made six saves in net to earn his 10th clean sheet this year.
  • Couchot leads the Gulls with 18 points (eight goals, two assists).
  • Sophomore back Bobby Ivatts (Walpole, Mass.) and junior forward Dario Neukom (Palma de Mallorca, Spain) picked up their second and third assists of the season, respectively.
  • It was a very physical match, as the teams combined for 29 fouls (22 WIT, 7 EC).

FOR THE FOES

  • Wentworth's unbeaten streak was snapped at 12, as the Leopards came into today's match with an 8-0-4 ledger in their past 12 appearances.
  • Sophomore goalkeeper Joe Schallmo (Norwood, Mass.) suffered the loss (5-1-2) as he made 10 saves on the afternoon.
  • Sophomore forward Noah Martins (Dartmouth, Mass.) paced the Leopards with four of the team's 12 shots.
  • Martins currently leads the CCC in both goals (12) and points (30).
  • The Leopards are 5-3 at home this season.
  • Wentworth was ranked No. 10 in the latest NSCAA New England Regional Poll as of Oct. 18, 2016.

NOTES

  • The Gulls shut out Wentworth twice last season (W, 1-0 on 10/21/15), and again, 2-0, in the CCC Semifinals in Beverly, Mass. in the most recent meeting before today on 11/03/15.

WHAT'S NEXT

Endicott (10-5-2, 7-1-0 CCC) will square off against cross-town rival Gordon in the final match of the regular season on Tuesday, October 25 at 7:00 p.m. in Wenham, Mass.

Wentworth (10-3-4, 6-1-1CCC) travels to Biddeford, Maine to take on the host University of New England Nor'easters on Tuesday, October 25 at 6:30 p.m.
