Four Gulls Earn NFHCA All-Region Honors

NFHCA All-Region Release

CHANDLER, Ariz. – The National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) has release the 2014 Longstreth/NFHCA All-Region teams and four members of the Endicott field hockey team have been recognized. The only other time four members have been chosen in program history was back in the 2011 season. Endicott finished their season as a 2014 CCC Finalist while holding an impressive 16-5 overall record while consistently being ranked in the New England East Region.

Senior Emily Sawchuck (Cumberland, Maine) and junior Ashleigh Allen (Glastonbury, Conn.) were each recognized as members of the New England East All-Region First Team while senior Meghan Leary (Hampton Falls, N.H.) and sophomore Cheka Ventura (Lawrence, Mass.) earned All-Region Second Team honors. Both Sawchuck and Leary have each earned All-Region honors three times out of their four seasons.

Sawchuck ended her career as one of the most decorated players in program history. The forward holds all major offensive records while earning All-CCC honors four times and being the first player in the program to earn Rookie of the Year honors and capping off her career with an Offensive Player of the Year honor. Sawchuck finished the season leading in all offensive categories with 21 goals, 10 assists and 52 points.

Allen is earning her first All-Region nod as she wrapped up her first season with the Gulls. Allen was a key contributor to the success of the 2014 season as she led a strong midfield unit while earning All-CCC First Team honors. The center-midfielder finished her first season with the Gulls, second on the team in all offensive categories with 10 goals, nine assists and 29 points.

Leary has been a consistent integral member of the field hockey team during her four seasons. The defender has played and started in almost every single game during her career. Leary contributed to one of the stealthiest defensive units in the region this season while also earning one goal and three assists. The defender will finish her career as one of the most decorated defenders in program history.

Ventura played an amazing rookie campaign for the Blue and Green between the pipes. The goalkeeper earned the CCC Rookie of the Year award while earning All-CCC First Team honors. The rookie wrapped up the 2014 season leading one of the strongest defensive units in the region while holding an impressive .819 save percentage and 1.56 goals against average.

With First-Team All-Region status, both Sawchuck and Allen will be eligible for All-American honors. The field hockey program has yet to have a player hold this honor.

Endicott is one of three Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) teams listed on the All-Region selections. The other two teams holding honors are the University of New England and Gordon. Out of the three schools, the Gulls have the most representatives with four.
