ECAC Field Hockey Players of the Week Release (for week ending October 19th, 2014)

CENTERVILLE, Mass. – Following a stellar performance between the pipes last week, sophomore Checka Ventura (Lawrence, Mass.) has captured this week's Corvias Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III New England Defensive Player of the Week honors. Ventura most recently was also named this week's Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Defensive Player of the Week.

Last week the Gulls posted a 2-0 week as they lifted to a 4-1 victory over regional opponent Husson and then defeating CCC opponent Western New England in a 6-1 triumph. Endicott sits at 13-3 (7-2 CCC) while they look forward to Saturday afternoon where they travel to Salve Regina for a CCC matchup at 1:00 p.m. Today the regional polls were released and the Gulls were slated at #2 in the New England East region.

The goalkeeper combined for 22 saves in the two victories. Against a strong regional opponent Husson the sophomore made an impressive 16 stops and allowed just one goal on the 24 total shots taken by the Eagles. In the conference game against the Golden Bears on Saturday the goalkeeper posted another impressive game making six saves in the victory. Ventura is currently holding a 10-2 record between the pipes for Endicott while leading the conference in overall save percentage (.837), goals-against average (1.34) and goals against (16). During the week of September 29h, Ventura was awarded the Rookie of the Week nod for the CCC and the ECAC.
