SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Endicott field hockey team traveled to Western New England on Saturday afternoon for a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) showdown. Junior Morgan Bresnahan (South Burlington, Vt.) notched two goals to help soar the Gulls to a 4-0 victory. With the triumph Endicott improves to 6-1 (2-0 CCC) while the Golden Bears fall to 2-4 (0-2 CCC).

Endicott will see action next on Tuesday, September 23rd when they host conference rivals, the University of New England for a 7:00 p.m. contest under the lights on North Field. The Golden Bears will also play next on Tuesday night when they host conference opponent Roger Williams for a 7:00 p.m. start.

The first half was controlled by the Blue and Green despite both sides ripping seven shots. In the opening minutes the Gulls got on the board first after junior Ashleigh Allen (Glastonbury, Conn.) controlled rebound off goalkeeper Renee Rossignol (Topsham, Maine) and pushed the ball into the back of the net for the 1-0 lead.

The Golden Bears would hold the hungry Gulls for the next 15 minutes until the 20th minute when Bresnahan nailed her first goal of the game. Bresnahan controlled a beautiful pass from senior Amanda Glynn (Hampton, N.H.) and ripped a shot at net to take a 2-0 lead.

The Endicott offense kept peppering Rossignol working to goal and with two minutes to go in the half Bresnahan went for her second goal of the game after taking a crisp pass from senior Emily Sawchuck (Cumberland, Maine) and finding the back of the net. With the goal Bresnahan moves to the leader board in goals this season (5).

The Gulls ended the half with a 3-0 lead while junior goalkeeper Rose Bradley (Pottstown, Pa) made three stops in the half to hold the Golden Bears scoreless.

The second half showed a stronger Gulls squad that outshot their opponent 6-2 while taking seven penalty corners. The Blue and Green blasted some big shots at Rossignol, led by Sawchuck with four shots. The Gulls were able to show their versatility by playing almost every player on their bench in the half. Under the leadership of veterans, Jess Linden (Stratford, Conn), Kathryn Walker (Middlebury, Conn.) and Elizabeth LeClair (Wilton, Maine) the Gulls pushed to a very successful second half.

Making some great plays was freshman Olivia Larson (Cheshire, Conn.) who came in off the bench and created some great opportunities for the Blue and Green and forced offensive corners. Also creating opportunities were senior Mackenzie Hurst (Gilford, N.H.), freshmans Maggie Layo (Sandwich, Mass.) and Emylee Wood (Kensington, N.H.).

After working the Western New England defensive unit the Blue and Green tallied their fourth and final goal of the game in the 63rd minute. Freshman Brittany Bushey (Pittsford, Vt.) sat on the left post and nailed a tip in off a rocket across the circle by Hurst.

Endicott wrapped up the conference matchup with a 4-0 shutout victory to improve to a six game winning streak and their second straight shutout in conference play.
