Ventura and Larson Lead CCC Weekly Awards

CCC Athletes of the Week (Week Ending October 19, 2014)

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) has released their weekly awards and two members of the field hockey team have been recognized. Sophomore Checka Ventura (Lawrence, Mass.) and freshman Olivia Larson have each earned their second weekly honors this season.

Last week the Gulls posted a 2-0 week as they lifted to a 4-1 victory over regional opponent Husson and then defeating CCC opponent Western New England in a 6-1 triumph. Endicott sits at 13-2 (7-1 CCC) while they look forward to tomorrow night where they will faceoff with CCC rival, the University of New England at 6:00 p.m. on the Big Blue Turf.

Ventura her first Defensive Player of the Week nod after posting an impressive week for the Gulls between the pipes. The goalkeeper combined for 22 saves in the two victories. Against a strong regional opponent Husson the sophomore made an impressive 16 stops and allowed just one goal on the 24 total shots taken by the Eagles. In the conference game against the Golden Bears on Saturday the goalkeeper posted another impressive game making six saves in the victory. Ventura is currently holding a 10-2 record between the pipes for Endicott while leading the conference in overall save percentage (.837), goals-against average (1.34) and goals against (16). During the week of September 29h, Ventura was awarded the Rookie of the Week nod.

Larson is earning her second straight CCC Rookie of the Week honor after having another stellar week for the Gulls as she tallied a total of five points with her two goals and one assist. In the 4-1 victory over regional contender Husson the rookie tallied the second goal of the game. In the 6-1 victory over CCC opponent Western New England the forward had a great game in the offensive circle with her three point effort. Larson tallied the game tying goal in the first half which led to five straight Gulls goals.
