Layo Claims First Rookie of the Week Nod

CCC Athletes of the Week (Week Ending November 2, 2014

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) released their weekly awards on Sunday evening and Maggie Layo (Sandwich, Mass.) of the field hockey team earned her first Rookie of the Week nod. Endicott wrapped up their regular season over the weekend and finished at 15-4 (9-3) as they head into the 2014 CCC Field Hockey Tournament as the #4 seed. The Gulls will travel to cross-town rival, #3 Gordon on Wednesday, November 5th for the semifinals slated for a 4:00 p.m. start.

Last week the Blue and Green went 1-1 as they lifted to a 6-1 victory over Nichols and fell in a tough 2-1 battle with Gordon in the season finale.

Layo had a great week for the Gulls as she tallied two goals against Nichols in CCC action on Wednesday afternoon. In the 6-1 victory the forward tallied the first Endicott goal of the game that also marked as a game tying goals then followed with the fifth goal of the game to mark her season goals at three. In the tough one goal loss to cross town rival, Gordon the rookie posted a strong game as part of the offensive unit.

Endicott will look ahead to their battle with Gordon on Wednesday which will mark the third straight semifinal appearance with the Fighting Scots. Endicott is on the hunt for their third CCC Championship in four years.
