BEVERLY, MA - It's no fluke why Endicott goaltender Erin Curry (Hampstead, NH/Gould Academy) is among the NCAA Division III top goaltenders.
The junior recorded her 10th shutout of the season to guide the fourth-seeded Gulls to a 2-0 victory over visiting Salve Regina in winter conditions Saturday at Endicott College. Endicott will travel to New England College, who had a first round bye as the No. 1 seed, for a semifinal match.
Heading into Saturday's contest, Curry, who turned away all six shots she faced Saturday, ranked 15th in the NCAA in save percentage (.851) and 13th in goals against average (0.972).
The Gulls (13-5) were busy in the first half, scoring twice on goals by Caitlin Murray (Templeton, MA/Gardner) and Ashley Meunier (Hartland, VT/Kimball Union Academy) on a penalty stroke. Murray's tally was unassisted with 27:26 remaining in the half while Murray went blocker side on Salve goaltender Brook Bowley (Hollis, ME/Bonny Eagle) at the 12:27 mark of the first.
Bowley was challenged with 13 shots in the second but Endicott could not break through. Bowley finished with 14 saves.
