McNamara and Curry Combine for a 3-0 Shutout Against AMC

Oct. 11, 2003

Beverly, MA - EC field hockey (9-4 overall; 4-1 conference) played their first Saturday home game of the season today against conference opponent Anna Maria (7-6 overall; 2-3 conference). The Gulls played a complete game against AMC, with both defense and offense contributing to the 3-0 victory.

Though scoreless in the first half, the Gulls out-shot their visitors 10-1. EC defenders kept the ball out of their end, without having to defend against a single penalty corner and just one shot. Senior captain Kelly McNamara (Reading, MA) was called upon to make 1 save for her team.

The Gulls proved just as strong in second half play, determined to let the scoreboard reflect their playing. With 27:00 remaining, Kim Doody (Jr/Laconia, NH) got the scoring started with Endicott's first goal of the game on an assist from captain Kara Fournier (Sr/Bow, NH). EC's next two goals came from penalty corner plays. Ashley Wallace (So/Hudson, NY) hit a pass into the circle for KD Balentine (York, ME) to score at 20:42. Two minutes later at 18:42, the Gulls got their third and final goal of the game unassisted from Fournier.

EC defense prevented Anna Maria from scoring in the remaining minutes. Erin Curry (Fr/East Hampstead, NH) had 2 saves for the Gulls, while Jen Carney (Jr/Wenham, MA) and Ashley Wallace each picked up a defensive save in the win.

Today marked the fourth straight win for the Gulls, improving their record to 9-4 overall, 4-1 in the CCC. EC will take on non-conference opponent Bridgewater State on Tuesday.
