Beverly, MA - Endicott field hockey lost today to conference opponent Gordon College. The Fighting Scots, true to their name, came out fighting and never looked back.
Sophomore Megan Benevides opened fire less than a minute into the first half and recorded GC's first goal of the game unassisted (34:04).
Both defenses held the score at 1-0 for the first half. Endicott goalkeeper Kelly McNamara (Sr./Reading, MA) made 8 saves for the Gulls, not allowing any other Gordon player to score for the duration of the half. Katie DeFeo (Fr./York, ME) prevented Benevides from getting another look at goal the rest of the game.
In second half play, Gordon scored again to pull ahead 2-0. Gordon goal was scored by Brittany Nanni with 24:22 remaining. EC second half defense led by backs Alison Beaulieu (Jr./Augusta, ME) and Lyndsay Woods (Fr./York, ME) recovered to keep Gordon scoreless in the final minutes of the game, only allowing 2 shots after Nanni's goal.
With today's defeat, EC field hockey drops to 1-1 in the conference, 4-3 overall. The Fighting Scots improve to 1-1 in the conference, 2-5 overall.
Endicott field hockey (4-3) plays their next game away this Saturday at Nichols College (0-4 overall, 0-1 in CCC) in Dudley, MA.
