Doody Gets Two in For Endicott in the Final Minutes

Sept. 25, 2003

Endicott College field hockey traveled to Springfield today where they faced non-conference opponent Western New England College.

Both teams remained scoreless in the first half until WNEC'S Nicole Derosa got one in past EC goalkeeper Erin Curry with just 1:39 minutes showing on the clock. WNEC followed this up with a quick second goal just 6 seconds later to take them into half-time with a sudden 2-0 lead.

In second half play, WNEC again took control and put two more in the cage, pulling away from Endicott 4-0. Erin Curry came up with 5 saves for the Gulls. Down 4-0, Endicott dug deep to fight back and get possesion in their offensive end. With just 2:52 minutes left in the game, junior forward Kim Doody (Laconia, NH) scored off of an assist from freshman Christie Stannard. Not willing to walk off the field with just one goal for the day, EC again got possesion in their end and quickly got another shot off. Kim Doody scored her second and final goal of the game with just 1:28 minutes remaining. She was assisted by KD Balentine (Jr./York, ME). Sophomore Ashley Wallace (Hudson, NY) led the offense to keep the ball in Endicott's offensive end right up to the final whistle, although they were unable to score again as time ran out.

Allison Jameson had two assists for WNEC.

With a final score of 4-2 today, the EC Gulls drop their record to 5-4 overall.

Endicott field hockey will play University of New England away on Saturday at 10:00 am in Biddeford, ME.
