Gulls Fight Back for a 3-2 Victory

Oct. 2, 2003

Beverly, MA - Endicott field hockey returned to Tupper field today for their first home game in two weeks. After finding success on the road, the Gulls were ready to show their stuff to the home-town fans.

Visitors Framingham State College took an early lead at 30:59 on a shot from a penalty corner. Liz Britton recorded the goal on an assist from Becky Martin. The Gulls were unable to defend against the same play minutes later when Britton and Martin again combined for an FSC goal. EC took 14 shots in the first 35:00 minutes of play. With a pair of goals on the board, FSC went into half-time with a comfortable lead.

The Gulls used half-time to re-group, and came out determined to score. EC offense kept the ball in their end, getting their first goal of the match in at 31:57 when Beth McKenna (Jr./Dedham, MA) knocked in a pass from Ashley Wallace (So./Hudson, NY) to get things started for the Gulls. Just over a minute later, Gulls captain Jen McCormack (Jr./Milton, MA) tied the score at 2-all putting in her first goal of the day off of an assist from Caitlin Murray (Fr./Templeton, MA). McCormack's game winner came with 8:40 minutes left in regulation play. She was assisted by KD Balentine (Jr./York, ME).

EC freshman goalkeeper, Erin Curry (East Hampstead, NH), had 12 saves in the second half. Curry and EC defense kept out three penalty corners and 13 shots on goal. Jen Carney (Jr./Wenham, MA) had a defensive save for Endicott.

With today's victory, the Gulls improve their record to 7-4 overall, and remain at 3-1 in CCC action. The Gulls travel to face their next opponent, Fitchburg State, Thursday, October 9 at 4:00 pm.
