Endicott moves onto second round with 21-8 win

BEVERLY, Mass. - The Endicott College women's lacrosse team cruised to an impressive 21-8 win over eighth-seeded Colby-Sawyer College to move onto the Semifinals of The Commonwealth Coast Conference tournament. The Gulls improve to 13-4 overall this year while Colby-Sawyer wraps up its season at 3-11. Endicott's Carin Czerniawski (Monroe, Conn.) and Valerie Feldman (Albany, N.Y.) led the Gulls with four goals each.

Czerniawski scored the first goal of the game nearly 47-seconds in to make it a quick 1-0 lead for the Gulls. Colby-Sawyer responded almost two minutes later as Liz Allen (Holden, Mass.) took a Lyndsay French (Ipswich, Mass.) feed and knotted the game at 1-1. The Gulls responded with four more goals, including a pair by Feldman, before Allicia Murphy (North Bennington, Vt.) scored for the Chargers to make it 5-2.

The Gulls responded with another 4-0 run as Czerniawski netted a pair and Sara Gunter (Kennebunk, Maine) scored her second goal of the contest to stretch the Endicott lead to 9-2. Murphy would score again to make it 9-3 and again later in the half before the Gulls added three more goals, including a Feldman score with less than a second remaining, to take a 12-4 halftime lead.

Endicott opened the second half with a 6-0 run to start the second frame as Rebecca Bushnell (Guilford, Conn.) scored three goals and Gunter netted her third in the run. Trailing 18-4, Colby-Sawyer mustered a mini-run with four-straight goals, including a pair by Laura Strelis (Arlington, Mass.). However, the Gulls closed out the game by scoring three straight and moving onto the next round of play with a 21-8 victory.

Endicott outshot the Chargers in the game at a 32-20 total. Each team committed 15 turnovers while the Gulls committed 10 more penalties, 24-14. Endicott went 8-for-12 on clears while the Chargers could only clear 5-of-10 but Colby-Sawyer converted on three-of-seven free-position shots to Endicott's 2-for-4, all in the first half.

Czerniawski led all players with six points (four goals, two assists) while Feldman added five of her own with four goals and an assist. Bushnell (3), Pearce (2), Gunter (3), and Morgan DeShaw (2) (Danville, N.H.) all also scored multiple times for the Gulls. Molly Hamel (North Yarmouth, Maine) picked up the win in net by making nine saves on the evening.

Alicia Foss (Greensboro, Vt.) suffered the setback for the Chargers while making seven saves. Murphy led the offense with three goals while Strelis added two and five draw controls in the loss.

Endicott moves onto face New England College on Thursday evening at 7:00 p.m. at Endicott Stadium. The Pilgrims defeated Gordon College on Tuesday, 13-12, in overtime.
