Softball Splits Home Twinbill With MIT In Home Opener

Softball Splits Home Twinbill With MIT In Home Opener

BEVERLY, Mass. — The Endicott softball team split a pair of non-conference games against MIT (4-5, 8-6) on Wednesday evening.

GAME ONE: MIT 5, Endicott 4

WP (4-1): Caroline Langmeyer (Upper Arlington, Ohio) — 7 IP, 8 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 1 BB, 5 K
LP (2-3): Jaylin Couto (Taunton, Mass.) — 7 IP, 9 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 4 BB, 5 K

The Gulls never led in game one despite a valiant comeback effort.

Dani Lear (Groveland, Mass.) gave Endicott a jolt in the sixth with a two-run double to left field to cut into the deficit at 3-2.

Following a two-spot by MIT in the seventh, the Gulls put the tying run on second following an Abby McClaflin (Easthampton, Mass.) solo shot and a Paige Berdos (Plainville, Mass.) RBI double in the bottom half.

The Engineers stymied the comeback bid, however, by inducing a game-ending fly out to right field.

GAME TWO: Endicott 8, MIT 6

WP (5-1): Kristen Beebe (Brentwood, N.H.) — 4 IP, 5 H, 6 R, 5 ER, 2 BB, 2 K
LP (2-2): Nicole Doering (St. Louis Park, Minn.) — 2 IP, 2 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 3 BB, 2 K
SV (1): Analise Grady (Reading, Mass.) — 3 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K

The Gulls flipped the script in game two, scoring first before holding off a late rally by MIT to secure the split.

Mia Mitchell (Medford, Mass.) opened the scoring in the first with an infield single.

McClaflin followed with a two-run double in the second (3-0) and a bases loaded walk in the fourth (4-3).

Endicott also scored four more runs in the frame on a wild pitch, a two-run single by Chloe Shapleigh (Lynnfield, Mass.), and a fielding error.

The crooked inning gave the Gulls just enough cushion on the scoreboard as MIT pushed across three runs in the fifth and left two more runners on base in the sixth prior to the rally falling short.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • McClaflin launched her first career homer in game two.
  • She led the team with four RBI on the evening.
  • Caroline Cummings (Trumbull, Conn.) went 3-for-6 with one run scored; team-high for hits in the DH.
  • Grady closed the door on her fifth career save.
