Softball Goes 1-1 On Day Three In Florida; Grady Spins Gem In Game Two

CLERMONT, Fla. – The Endicott softball team split a pair of games against Farmingdale State (4-5) and previously unbeaten Wesleyan (3-1) on Tuesday evening at Hancock Park (Field 1).

GAME ONE: Farmingdale State 5, Endicott 4

WP (2-1): Madison DeMaio (Elmont, N.Y.) – 7 IP, 7 H, 4 R, 2 ER, 7 BB, 4 K
LP (0-2): Jaylin Couto (Taunton, Mass.) – 7 IP, 9 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 5 BB, 9 K

Elyse Saccoccio (Coventry, R.I.) and Hadley Marchand (Andover, Conn.) provided the offense in game one as the duo drove in all four runs.

In the bottom of the first inning, Saccoccio got the Gulls on the board with a two-run double to right center before Marchand made it 3-0 later in the frame with a sac fly to center field.

Saccoccio came up clutch once again, this time in the fourth inning when she broke a 3-3 tie with an RBI triple to right field – plating Christina Nowicki (Chelsea, Mass.) for the second time on the day.

Farmingdale State chipped away at its deficit in the seventh, taking the lead for good on a sacrifice bunt.

Saccoccio finished the contest going 3-for-3 with one run scored, three RBI, and one walk from the cleanup spot.

GAME TWO: Endicott 3, Wesleyan (Conn.) 1

WP (1-1): Analise Grady (Reading, Mass.) – 6.2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 2 K
LP (4-1): Abby Orso (York, Maine) – 4 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 0 ER, 3 BB, 5 K
SV (1): Kristen Beebe (Brentwood, N.H.) – 0.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 0 K

Grady spun her second straight gem against a NESCAC program (Amherst, 3/17, 6 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 2 K), this time nearly going the distance against a Wesleyan squad that entered today's matchup 10-0 overall on the season.

The junior lefty's performance, and save by Beebe, put an abrupt end to the Cardinals' best start to a season in team history since the program began play in 1987.

Offensively, the Gulls scored all their runs in the first inning.

Abby McClaflin (Easthampton, Mass.) scored on a bases loaded wild pitch, while Caitlyn Romero (Southport, Conn.) notched a two-run single to center giving Grady all she needed in the circle.
