LEESBURG, Fla. – The Endicott softball team defeated Eastern Connecticut State (5-3) and Old Westbury (13-2, 5 inn.) on Thursday evening at the Sleepy Hollow Sports Complex.
GAME ONE: Endicott 5, Eastern Connecticut State 3
WP (2-1): Analise Grady (Reading, Mass.) – 3 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 5 K
LP (1-2): Elizabeth Mitchell (Coventry, Conn.) – 7 IP, 7 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 3 BB, 5 K
Trailing 3-2 in the sixth inning, Endicott first baseman Caitlyn Romero (Southport, Conn.) evened up the contest with an RBI double down the left field line to plate Elyse Saccoccio (Coventry, R.I.).
Mia Mitchell (Medford, Mass.) also added a sacrifice fly to right in the sixth, while Christina Nowicki (Chelsea, Mass.) drove in Kylyn McLaren (Rochester, N.H.) with an infield single in the seventh to give Grady another insurance run on the scoreboard.
The junior lefty worked around a one-out triple in the bottom half of the frame via back-to-back strikeouts (swinging/looking) to secure the victory.
Endicott jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first thanks to a pair of sacrifice flies by Chloe Shapleigh (Lynnfield, Mass.) and Paige Berdos (Plainville, Mass.) before the Warriors took an eventual 3-2 lead with two runs in the third and a solo tally in the fourth.
GAME TWO: Endicott 13, Old Westbury 2 (5 inn.)
WP (1-2): Jaylin Couto (Taunton, Mass.) – 4 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 8 K
LP (0-2): Taylor Murphy (Bayville, N.J.) – 3 IP, 9 H, 8 R, 8 ER, 3 BB, 1 K
The Gulls compiled a season-high 15 hits to complete the sweep.
Romero, Hadley Marchand (Andover, Conn.), and Ella Tower (Windham, N.H.) highlighted the offense as the trio collected three RBI apiece.
Marchand and Nowicki also registered three-hit days, while Romero and McLaren finished with two hits each.
Endicott scored five runs in the third and eight more in the fourth to put the game away.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORES
- The Gulls earned their first win in the all-time series against Eastern Connecticut State (1-3).
- Endicott is 2-0 all-time versus Old Westbury (W, 8-0, 3/21/24, Spring Break Trip).
- Romero has notched at least one RBI in all five games played this season.
- Nowicki finished the doubleheader going 4-for-7 with three runs, two RBI, one walk, and a stolen base.
- Romero and Nowicki extended their hitting streaks to five and four games, respectively.
