WENHAM, Mass. — The Endicott softball team swept Gordon, 8-3 and 11-3, on Thursday evening in the Conference of New England (CNE) opener for both squads.
GAME ONE: Endicott 8, Gordon 3
WP (3-2): Analise Grady (Reading, Mass.) — 6 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 8 K
LP (4-3): Emily Graham (Amesbury, Mass.) — 1.2 IP, 8 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 0 BB, 1 K
The Gulls posted crooked numbers in the first (3), second (2), and fourth (3) innings to take game one.
Abby McClaflin (Easthampton, Mass.), Elyse Saccoccio (Coventry, R.I.), and Chloe Shapleigh (Lynnfield, Mass.) all drove in runs in the first before Gordon countered with a three-run homer in the bottom half.
Endicott wasted little time regaining the lead in the second, as Caroline Cummings (Trumbull, Conn.) notched an RBI triple down the right field line scoring Kylyn McLaren (Rochester, N.H.).
Christina Nowicki (Chelsea, Mass.) also plated a run in the second and fourth innings to make it 6-3, while Caitlyn Romero (Southport, Conn.) and Paige Berdos (Plainville, Mass.) capped the scoring later in the fourth with RBI base knocks.
Following the three-run homer in the first, Grady only allowed one hit and stranded three runners in scoring position throughout the rest of her outing.
Jaylin Couto (Taunton, Mass.) shut the door in the seventh via a hit-by-pitch, failed bunt (L5), and 4-6-3 double play.
GAME TWO: Endicott 11, Gordon 3
WP (3-1): Kristen Beebe (Brentwood, N.H.) — 4 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 4 BB, 3 K
LP (1-6): Katie Melendy (Easton, Mass.) — 3 IP, 8 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 1 BB, 1 K
SV (1): Hadley Marchand (Andover, Conn.) — 3 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 0 K
Endicott scored at least one run in every inning but the first and fifth to complete the sweep.
McClaflin, Shapleigh, and Ella Tower (Windham, N.H.) paced the offense with two RBI each.
Meanwhile, the heart of the order (3-4-5) — Saccoccio (2-4, 3 R, 1 RBI), Shapleigh (2-4, 1 R, 2 RBI), and Berdos (2-3, 2 R) — combined for six hits, six runs, and three RBI.
