BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott softball team opened Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) tournament play with a 10-1 (5 innings) victory over Gordon College on Saturday afternoon.
Endicott jumped out to an early 2-0 lead after two innings, but the Fighting Scots cut that lead to 2-1 when Kristen Brown (Granite Springs, N.Y) hit a solo home run in the top of the fourth.
The Gulls responded with one run in the bottom of the fourth and then seven tallies in the fifth to secure the victory.
CCC Rookie of the Year, Adrianna Favreau (Tewksbury, Mass.), ripped a home run to left field to get the bottom of the fifth started and Emily Sharpe (South Glens Falls, N.Y.) ended the game with a three-run homer down the left field line.
Maggie Oram (Lexington, Mass.) got the start in the circle for the Gulls and improved to 11-1 on the season. She struck out six batters while allowing just two hits and one run.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORES
- Endicott improved to 36-2 all-time against Gordon with the victory and have won the last 11 meetings.
- Jasmine Mullally (Waterford, N.Y.) shifted to 5-10 on the season with the loss. She finished the game with seven strikeouts.
- Leading the Gulls offensively were Lindsee Allienello (East Providence, R.I.), who went 2-for-3 with one RBI and two stolen bases, and Jamie Hopgood (Warwick, R.I.), who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a double.
WHAT'S NEXT
No. 1 Endicott (29-4) will host the remainder of the CCC Tournament next Friday and Saturday (May 4-5) and will face either No. 2 Eastern Nazarene or No. 3 Western New England on Friday, May 4. No. 8 Gordon (12-22) also advances to next weekend and will face No. 7 Nichols on May 4.
