Endicott Sweeps Gordon With Pair of 4-2 Victories

WENHAM, Mass. — The Endicott softball team traveled to Gordon College for a pair of Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) games and came away with 4-2 victories in both contests.

GAME ONE: Endicott 4, Gordon 2

The Fighting Scots jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning but the Gulls responded in the top of the second with a homerun from Lindsee Allienello (East Providence, R.I.) to cut the lead to 2-1.

Endicott added another run in the top of the third inning to tie the game up. Adrianna Favreau (Tewksbury, Mass.) was hit by a pitch to get on base and then went on to score on a fielding error. 

In the top of the sixth innning, the Gulls added two insurance runs. Allienello walked and then made it home on a double from Gina DeMilt (Princeton, N.J.). Jamie Hopgood (Warwick, R.I.) also hit a double to score DeMilt. The Endicott defense held Gordon scoreless for the remainder of the game to secure the 4-2 victory. 

Laura Somerville (Suffield, Conn.) got the start on the mound and earned the win. She improves to 3-0 on the season and struck out six batters. Maggie Oram (Lexington, Mass.) came in during the sixth and struck out two to earn the save.

 

GAME TWO: Endicott 4, Gordon 2

Endicott struck first to get on the board during the top of the first inning. Kayla Sheldon (Burlington, Mass.) got on base with a single to left center and then Emily Sharpe (South Glens Falls, N.Y.) doubled down the left line to send her home. 

The Fighting Scots tied the game up though in the bottom of the first and then went on to take a 2-1 lead in the fourth inning.

In the top of the fifth, the Gulls saw Sheldon hit a single through the left side. She would go on to score on a single from Sharpe to tie the game 2-2. 

Endicott regained the lead in the sixth inning when Allienello ripped a two run homerun to left field. 

The Gulls once again held the Fighting Scots scoreless in the seventh to hold on to the 4-2 win. 

Oram earned the start and pitched two innings before Michaela Hamill (Lynn, Mass.) came in to finish out the game. Hamill improved to 4-1 on the season. 

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Endicott is now 35-2 all-time against Gordon
  • The Gulls have won the last ten meetings between the two programs. 
  • Allienello's homeruns were the second and third of her career. 

WHAT'S NEXT

Endicott (11-3, 3-1 CCC) returns to the field on Tuesday, April 10 with a doubleheader against Salem State starting at 3 p.m. Gordon (6-15, 2-6 CCC) travels to Eastern Nazarene for a doubleheader at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, April 11.
