Softball Splits On Day Four In Florida

CLERMONT, Fla. — The Endicott softball team went 1-1 overall on day four of its spring break trip to Florida via a 3-0 win over UMass Boston and an 8-3 loss to Bowdoin.

GAME ONE: Endicott 3, UMass Boston 0

Michaela Hamill (Lynn, Mass.) tossed her second shutout of the season on three hits, seven walks, and three punchouts to move Endicott to 6-1 on the season.

Meanwhile, offensively, the Gulls scored all of their runs in the first inning via a sacrifice fly from Emily Sharpe (South Glens Falls, N.Y.) and a two-run single by Hayley Arduini (Southington, Conn.).

Arduini finished with 2-for-3 with two RBI, while Danielle Stratton (Agawam, Mass.) also collected two hits in the win.

GAME TWO: Bowdoin 8, Endicott 3

Bowdoin raced out to a 5-0 lead and never looked back to stay undefeated on the season (4-0).

Polar Bears' starter Allison Rutz (Essex Junction, Vt.) notched the victory in the circle on 11 hits, three runs, two earned, two free passes, and a game-high five strikeouts.

On the other end, Kayla Sheldon (Burlington, Mass.), Jamie Hopgood (Warwick, R.I.), Adrianna Favreau (Tewksbury, Mass.), and Meg Power (Shrewsbury, Mass.) all had multi-hit games for the Gulls. 

Favreau broke up the shutout for Endicott in the third with an RBI double to left center, while Arduini blasted a solo shot to left field in the sixth. Hopgood rounded out Endicott's scoring in the seventh when she notched a deep run-producing double to right field.

Other highlights for the Gulls included Power's first collegiate hit - a single to short - in the second inning, while Hopgood went 3-for-4 with one run scored and one RBI out of the three-spot in the lineup.

Endicott (6-2) wraps up its trip to Florida tomorrow with games against Bethel (9 AM) and Clarkson (2 PM).
