Softball Sweeps Wentworth, 9-1 & 8-0

BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott softball team swept visiting Wentworth Institute of Technology, 9-1 (5 inn.) and 8-0 (5 inn.), on Tuesday evening.

GAME ONE: Endicott 9, Wentworth 1 (5 inn.)

Endicott scored all nine of its runs in the bottom of the first inning and never looked back.

Emily Sharpe (South Glens Falls, N.Y.) and Olivia Odermatt (Cheshire, Conn.) highlighted the Gulls' efforts in the first inning as both student-athletes roped a two-run double. Jamie Hopgood (Warwick, R.I.) also drove in the bookend runs in the frame with an RBI double to left center and a run-producing single through the right side.

Hopgood finished game one with a 3-for-3, one run scored, two RBI line, while Odermatt was 2-for-3 with one run scored and two RBI as well.

Laura Somerville (Suffield, Conn.) improved to 5-1 in the circle on five innings, six hits, one run (earned), three walks, and five strikeouts.

GAME TWO: Endicott 8, Wentworth 0 (5 inn.)

Mikaela Mallozzi (Shelton, Conn.) earned the win (3-0) on five innings, five hits, two walks, and a game-high five strikeouts.

Endicott scored all of its runs on RBI singles as the Gulls scored one in the first, two in the third and fourth, and three more in the fifth to record the victory via the mercy rule.

Hopgood went 2-for-3 with one run scored, two RBI, and a walk, while Adrianna Favreau (Tewksbury, Mass.) posted a 3-for-3, two RBI line at the plate from the five-hole in the lineup.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORES

  • Endicott improved to 35-0-1 against Wentworth all-time.
  • The Gulls are 9-1 at home this season and have won 11 straight games dating back to April 14.
  • During that stretch, the Gulls have played 12 games in 11 days.

WHAT'S NEXT

Endicott (28-4, 16-2 CCC) will serve as the No. 1 seed in the upcoming Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Tournament. The bracket will be announced later this week. Wentworth (11-24, 3-15 CCC) concludes its 2018 season tomorrow at home against Wheelock at 3:30 and 5:30 PM.
