Gulls Celebrate Pair Of Conference Wins Against RWU (6-2, 9-3) On Senior Day

POSTGAME INTERVIEW WITH COACH VEILLEUX

BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott softball team swept visiting Roger Williams, 6-2, 9-3, Saturday afternoon on Senior Day in a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) doubleheader at the Softball Field.

Before the first pitch, the Gulls honored senior captains Courtney Blake (East Islip, N.Y.), Jamie Corda (Higganum, Conn.), Samantha DiBella (Danvers, Mass.), and Emily Hoffman (Malden, Mass.).

GAME 1 – Endicott 6, Roger Williams 2

All the major scoring happened in the first three innings as Roger Williams got its two runs in the top of the first before Endicott tied it up in the bottom of the second and took the lead for good with three runs in the third and one insurance run in the fifth.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Blake earned her ninth win of the season (9-7) as she tossed a complete-game and allowed two runs (one earned) on five hits and struck out four.
  • Corda drove in a game-high three runs as she went a perfect 3-for-3 (two doubles) and scored one run to lead the Gulls' offensive attack.
  • Hoffman and sophomore center fielder Casie Beauchemin (Lincoln, R.I.) each collected a pair of singles as Hoffman scored a game-high two runs.

FOR THE FOES

  • Freshman designated hitter Micaela Pohl (Middleboro, Mass.) had two of the team's five hits and only RBI for the Hawks.
  • Junior second baseman Meredith Moise (North Reading, Mass.) scored the other run for Roger Williams.
  • Senior pitcher Meghan Maliga (Suffield, Conn.) was tagged with the loss (8-9) as she lasted 4 2/3 innings in the circle and surrendered six runs (four earned) on nine hits, walked two and struck out two before being replaced by sophomore Mary Adametz (Higganum, Conn.) (1 1/3 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 K).

GAME 2 – Endicott 9, Roger Williams 3

Sophomore shortstop Haley Ledbetter's (Westerly, R.I.) home run to right field in the top of the first plated the Hawks' first two runs of the game.

Endicott tied it up in the bottom of the frame as Beauchemin scored on Corda's fielder's choice and freshman left fielder Hayley Arduini's (Southinton, Conn.) sacrifice fly allowed Hoffman to knot the game at 2-2.

Sophomore Margaret Martzolf (Port Saint Lucie, Fla.) cranked a two-RBI double to left to give the Gulls' the lead in the bottom of the third and Endicott tacked on five more runs in the fifth highlighted by Arduini's two-run bomb to cap the scoring for the Gulls.

The Hawks pushed one more across in the sixth, but it wasn't enough as Endicott picked up two key conference victories heading into the final two days of the regular season.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Beauchemin tallied a game-high three hits for her second game this season with a trio of hits (at UNE on April 9, 2016).
  • Arduini drilled her fifth homer of the season and third this week.
  • Sophomore pitcher Mikaela Mallozzi (Shelton, Conn.) picked up her third win of the season (3-4) in a complete-game effort (first complete-game victory of the season) in which she allowed three runs while scattering six hits, walking two and striking out two.
