Gulls Handed 8-1 Road Loss At Babson

BABSON PARK, Mass. – The Endicott softball team fell, 8-1, to host Babson College in non-conference action Sunday afternoon at Alumni Field as seven runs over the final two innings for the Beavers sealed the deal.

Freshman third baseman Ashley Tango (Reading, Mass.) singled to left field to score freshman right fielder Josephine Mares (Houston, Texas) as the Beavers led 1-0 at the end of the first inning. 

Gulls' freshman right fielder Hayley Arduini's (Southington, Conn.) drove home sophomore shortstop Kayla Sheldon (Burlington, Mass.) to knot the score at 1-1 in the third inning.

Babson tacked on two more runs in the fifth as Tango's two-out two-RBI single to left field plated freshman left fielder Annie Quine  (Santa Monica, Calif.) and sophomore designated player Samantha Smith (Hillsborough, N.J.).

The Beavers added insurance runs with a five-run sixth inning all with two outs and the bases loaded as senior Maya Lacy (East Mill Creek, Utah) singled to left to drive home both Smith and Catherine Pitts (Winchester, Mass.) before Tango collected her game-high fifth runs batted in on the day with a two-run single scoring Lacy and Mares. Caitie Benoit's (Williamstown, Mass.) single to right plated Tango with the host's final run of the day. 

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Sophomore pitcher Mikaela Mallozzi (Shelton, Conn.) suffered her third loss of the season in her sixth start as she fell to 2-3 on the season. Mallozzi allowed eight runs (three earned) on 14 hits and walked one in six innings in the circle.
  • Freshman first baseman Jamie Hopgood (Warwick, R.I.) led the Gulls with two of the team's six hits, as today was the first multi-hit game of her career.
  • Arduini extended her hit streak to six straight games.
  • Endicott is 7-8 against non-conference opponents this season.

FOR THE FOES

  • Senior pitcher Madison Dinaso (Ardsley, N.Y.) allowed one run (unearned) in a complete-game six-hitter and issued two walks to go with three strikeouts en route to her fourth victory of the season (4-1).
  • Tango went a perfect 4-for-4 at the dish with a career-high five RBIs.
  • The Beavers are 8-3 at home this season.
  • The Beavers are 17-3 this spring when scoring at least three runs.
  • Babson's 14 hits were its second-most this season.

NOTES

  • The Gulls are 9-10-1 all-time and 3-6 on the road at Babson dating back to May 8, 2002.
  • The Beavers have won five straight against the Gulls, including a 3-1 win on April 14, 2015 in Beverly, Mass. in the most recent meeting before today.
