Softball Splits On Day Two In Florida

CLERMONT, Fla. – The Endicott softball team split a pair of non-conference games against Keene State and Plymouth State on Monday afternoon at Hancock Park. The Gulls fell to Keene State, 4-3, in their first game of the day before defeating Plymouth State, 10-5, in 10 innings in their second contest on the afternoon.

GAME 1 – Keene St. 4, Endicott 3

Keene State sophomore Olivia Indorf (South Portland, Maine) laced an RBI single down the right field line in the top of the seventh inning to help the Owls edge Endicott, 4-3, in game one of the day at Hancock Park (Field 4).

Mariah Crisp (Greenland, N.H.) earned the win (2-1) on seven innings pitched, four hits, three runs (two earned), four walks, and six strikeouts. Courtney Blake (East Islip, N.Y.) took the loss in a complete-game effort alongside 11 hits, four runs (all earned), one walk, and three punchouts.

Tied 3-3 in the top of the seventh, Keene State rallied with two outs in the frame to pick up its third victory of the season (3-4). Morgan Fallon (Reading, Mass.) jump started the rally with a single up the middle, while Jen Galavotti (Marian, Mass.) followed with a hit in the same location to put runners at first and second. Indorf then came up with the game-winning hit despite being down in the count (1-2) when she notched an opposite field single just inside the right field line.

Blake proceeded to escape further damage when she induced a sharp lineout off the bat of Shae Crosby (Salem, Conn.) to end the inning.

The Gulls did put the tying run on base with two outs in the bottom of the seventh via a two-out walk from Hayley Arduini (Southington, Conn.), but Crisp got the final batter of the game to foul out to short to seal the win.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Keene State evened the all-time series at 2-2 with today's win.
  • Endicott trailed 3-0 entering the fifth inning.
  • Jamie Corda (Higganum, Conn.) notched an RBI single in the three-run frame, while Lindsee Allienello (East Providence, R.I.) also drove in Corda with a double to left field. The Gulls other run in the inning came off a throwing error.

FOR THE FOES

  • Galavotti launched a two-run homer to dead center in the third.
  • The Owls scored their first run of the game in the second on a fielding error.
  • Stephanie Long (Salem, N.H.), Galavotti, and Indorf all collected three hits, respectively, in the win.

GAME 2 – Endicott 10, Plymouth State 5 (10 inn.)

Lindsee Allienello shined offensively and defensively in game two for Endicott to lead the Gulls to a 10-5 (10 inn.) victory over Plymouth State at Hancock Park (Field 3).

Tied 3-3 in the bottom of the eighth with tie-breaker rule in effect, Allienello swayed momentum into Endicott's dugout with her glove when she made an agile, diving catch on sacrifice bunt attempt down the line towards home plate for the first out of the frame. Allienello's play was a key factor in the outcome of the game as her catch in foul territory did not allow Plymouth State a chance to advance its runner at second base, who was placed there to start the inning due to extra innings rules, to third with less than one out in the inning.

After Endicott eventually got out of the eighth unscathed, both teams went on to exchange runs in the ninth before the Gulls posted six runs in the tenth to claim their first victory of the season (1-3).

Samantha DiBella (Danvers, Mass.) scored on a throwing error to make it 4-3 early on in the tenth inning, while Emily Sharpe (South Glens Falls, N.Y.) knocked home the deciding run with an RBI single to short.

Allienello eventually followed with a three-run homer to left center, which punctuated the Gulls' win and her 5-for-5 day at the plate (5 RBI, 1 run scored).

Freshman starter Laura Somerville (Suffield, Conn.) picked up her first collegiate victory on nine innings, four hits, four runs (three earned), three walks, and a career-high six strikeouts. Allison Moylan (Methuen, Mass.) was dealt the loss in relief on 4 1/3 innings, seven hits, seven runs (one earned), one walk, and a strikeout.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Somerville took a no-hitter into the sixth inning before Plymouth State's Autumn Beyor (Highgate, Vt.) grounded a single up the middle to break up the no-no bid.
  • The Panthers evened the score in the same inning on an RBI single by Julia Royer (Pawcatuck, Conn.) and a two-run homer from Abrie Davis (Amherst, N.H.).
  • Endicott is 2-0 in the all-time series versus Plymouth State, which dates back to 2014.
  • Allienello posted her second career multi-hit game in today's win, and first-ever game with five hits to become the program's single-game hits record holder.
  • Defensively, Allienello recorded one put out and also tallied a team-high five assists (tied).
  • Blake closed out the tenth yielding two hits, one run (unearned), to go along with a walk.
  • Margaret Martzolf (Point Saint Lucie, Fla.) went 3-for-5 with two RBI in game two to register her first multi-hit game of the season (sixth career).
  • DiBella also had a multi-hit game as the senior was 2-for-6 with one run scored, and an RBI.

FOR THE FOES

  • Kayla Mathieu (Fairfax, Vt.) was handed the no-decision on 5 2/3 innings pitched, nine hits, three runs (all earned), and three walks.
  • Davis had the Panthers only multi-hit game on the day as the sophomore went 2-for-3 with a home run, one run scored, and three RBI.
