GORHAM, ME - The Endicott College men's tennis team dropped a tough 7-2 non-conference decision to the University of Southern Maine on Monday afternoon. The setback dips the Gulls below .500, bringing their record to 4-5 overall.

The University of Southern Maine was clicking on all cylinders Monday afternoon, as they took six of seven in singles competition and two of three in doubles duels. The Huskies No. 1 Craig Spann (Redding, CT/Joel Barlow) was a force all afternoon, defeating Josh Schoen (Phoenix, AZ/Arcadia), 6-0, 6-3, and then teaming up with Josh Warren (Hermon, ME/Hermon) to score a 8-1 doubles win.

The bright spot for the Gulls was the continued strong play of Brian Sonneborn (Rye, NH/St Thomas Aquinas). The sophomore played a role in both Endicott wins on Monday, defeating Matt McGowan (Waterville, ME/Waterville), 6-1, 7-6, in a singles match, and then won his doubles contest with Marc Maloney (Feeding Hills, MA/Agawam), 8-5. Sonneborn is unbeaten in his last three singles and two doubles match-ups.

The Gulls return to the court tomorrow afternoon as they host Nichols College in a CCC showdown. Game time is scheduled for 3:30 PM in Beverly, MA
