EC Men Suffer Tough Loss to Salve Regina, 2-0

Oct. 24, 2004

The Endicott men's soccer team put up a great effort yesterday, on Homecoming Weekend, but could not capitalize on their opportunities as they dropped a tough loss to Salve Regina, 2-0. With the win Salve holds onto their first place spot in the CCC. The loss for the Gulls keeps them out of contention of hosting a home game Saturday in the quarterfinals of the CCC tournament. EC looks to be locked into the sixth seed with a 5-4-1 conference record, 8-8-1 overall.

The first half was extremely well played by both teams. EC dominated much of the play, getting scoring chances from sophomore Adam Paul and junior Steven Gloria. Nonetheless, the Gulls struggled again to find the back of the net and found themselves down 1-0 entering the half on a goal by Salve Regina's Jarod Anderson at the 29:58 mark.

The Gulls came out firing again in the second half, creating numerous scoring chances. Junior captain Daniel Duvernoy led the second half attack registering 2 shots on net. However, it was Salve's Joe Mastropietro who found a loose ball and the back of the net with 49 minutes on the clock.

Endicott freshman Cameron Twiss, with his first start as goalkeeper, had a solid effort sending back many Salve shots.

EC remains at home for their final regular season game Tuesday night at 6pm as they face the University of New England.
