In monsoon-like weather on Saturday afternoon, the EC men's soccer team battled the Roger Williams University Hawks to a 1-1 tie moving their record to 3-1-1 overall and 1-0-1 in conference play.
The first half began slow as the two teams played cautiously. With no shots on net until the 16th minute, the crowd became impatient waiting for their home team to finally put one in the back of the net. But unfortunately they would have to wait. At the 32:00 mark of the half, Brian Cussen of Roger Williams collected a deflection that he sent to the back of the EC net making it 1-0 in favor of the Hawks. Endicott freshman Eric Booth, helped to keep the Gulls in the game by turning back a number of Hawk opportunities down his wing.
The second half started much quicker than the first. The teams combined for a registered 4 shots in the first 7 minutes of the half. The pace quickened and seemed to spark the EC offense. At the 7:05 mark of the half, goalkeeper Colin Kemble, after a Roger Williams shot, hit a booming punt from his box to the opposite 30 of the field. Senior Josh Lewis, anticipated the punt, collected the ball off a Hawk defensemen and blasted it by the Roger Williams goalie from 25 yards out. Lewis leads the team with 4 goals on the season. Also having outstanding games was junior Daniel Duvernoy and freshman Elias Carrero in the midfield.
The Gulls continue conference play on Tuesday at 3:30pm when they face Eastern Nazarene College away.
