Wentworth freshman Nick Maryanopolis (Gloversville, NY) scored 4:39 into overtime breaking a 2-2 tie and lifting the Leopards over the Endicott Gulls yesterday in a CCC contest at Sweeney Field in Boston. The loss drops EC to 5-3-1 overall, 3-1-1 in conference play while the win gives the Leopards a 4-5 overall record, 3-2 in the CCC.
Wentworth struck first at 9:12 when senior forward Juan Flores (Juriquilla, MEXCIO) stole a clearing pass and then found the back of the net. Only moments later, Wentworth would score again. A long ball from the Wentworth defense made it to the foot of Juan Flores, who beat goalkeeper Colin Kemble and made it 2-0.
Endicott drew within one when senior forward Josh Lewis collected a through ball from freshman midfielder Elias Carrero, and pushed it by the Wentworth goalkeeper (20:12 mark).
The Gulls continued to fight back in the second half. With 68:06 on the clock Carrero settled a cross from junior Steve Gloria and blasted it by the Wentworth goalkeeper tying the score at 2-all.
After dominating the first 10 minutes of the overtime period, EC was rewarded a goal kick. Freshman Eric Booth kicked the ball off the line to near midfield where Leopard, Maryanopolis, collected the kick and shot a ball at Kemble. The ball took a tough bounce off the wet playing field and lifted over Kemble ending the game.
The Gulls continue conference play on Saturday when they travel to Nichols College for a game at 1pm.
