Quirk named FieldTurf/IMLCA Division III Coach of the Year

Dec. 12, 2008

BALTIMORE, Md. - FieldTurf and the Intercollegiate Men's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IMLCA) have announced that Endicott's Sean Quirk has been named the 2008 FieldTurf Division III Coach of the Year. The announcement, made by FieldTurf executives and the IMLCA, took place at the IMLCA Annual Convention in Baltimore, Md. on Friday afternoon.

Quirk, who will be entering his 12th season at the helm of the Endicott men's lacrosse program, has developed the Gulls into one of the top-tier programs in the nation. The Blue and Green posted an 18-3 overall record in 2008, winning their first-ever ECAC New England Championship. The Gulls notched wins over No. 4 Wesleyan, No. 16 Western New England, regionally-ranked Tufts and NCAA qualifier Springfield College. Endicott ended the season ranked 16th in the country, and could crack the top-ten for the first time in program history in 2009.

In his 11 seasons guiding the Gulls, Quick has established a career record of 141-56. Endicott has won four of the last five The Commonwealth Coast Conference titles and currently has an unbelievable 49-game regular season conference winning streak. Quirk had eight players named to the All-TCCC team in 2008, including both the Conference's Offensive and Defensive Player of the Year award winners. Endicott placed five players on the NEILA All-New England Team and had three All-American recipients.

"I thank Endicott for allowing me the opportunity to lead this program for the last 11 years," said Quirk. "I owe the success to the biggest influences in my life: my family, high school coach Paul Adams, college coach Keith Bugbee, all my assistants, and current and former players. This truly has been a team effort."

Award-winners were named in seven categories, including six college coach of the year winners and one team of the year winner. Dom Starsia from the University of Virginia was named the men's Division I Coach of the Year, while Northwestern University's Kelly Amonte was named the women's Division I Coach of the Year. Jack Kaley of NYIT was awarded the Division II men's recognition and Ginny Martino of West Chester University was named the women's Division II recipient. Patty Kloidt of Hamilton College was presented the Division III women's Coach of the Year while the Northwestern University women's team took home NCAA Team of the Year honors.
