BEVERLY, Mass. — Endicott men's basketball forward Marcus Montagnino (Gloucester, Mass.) has been named the Conference of New England's (CNE) Rookie of the Week following last week's strong performance, the league office announced Monday afternoon.
In Endicott's 2-1 week, Montagnino flourished on both sides of the floor.
The Xavier club basketball graduate transfer led the team in scoring (69 total points; 23.0 ppg), field goal percentage (23-32; 71.9%), three-point percentage (5-7; 71.4%), rebounds (26 total; 10 offensive), assists (15), and blocks (two).
He was named a Co-MVP of the Emmanuel Tip-Off Classic for his efforts.
On Tuesday at MIT, the forward logged 19 points (7-9 FG), four rebounds, four assists, and a steal in the Blue and Green's 85-77 loss.
Montagnino then led the Gulls to a major bounce back, as they participated in and won the Emmanuel Tip-Off Classic over the weekend.
On Friday, he carried the Gulls to a comeback win (faced a 16-point deficit early in the second half) with his explosive 32-point performance (11-16 FG, 1-2 3PT, 9-11 FT). He also hauled down seven rebounds, dished out two assists, and swiped two steals in the first Gulls victory of the season.
He followed up that performance with a near triple-double in an 87-73 win over Lake Forest. The forward posted 18 points, eight rebounds, and eight assists in 31 minutes of action on Saturday.
He graced Co-MVP honors alongside Elijah Kinney (Nashville, Tenn.) after Endicott's 2-0 performance over the weekend.
This is Montagnino's first career CNE Rookie of the Week award.
