BIDDEFORD, Maine — The Endicott men's basketball team took down the Univeristy of New England (UNE), 92-62, in a Conference of New England (CNE) contest on Wednesday evening inside Harold Alfond Forum.
The Gulls had a quintet of student-athletes in double figures tonight.
Marcus Montagnino (Gloucester, Mass.) paced the contest with a game-best 21 points (9-16 FG), 13 rebounds, seven assists, and three steals.
Drew Brown (Pelham, N.H.) netted 15 points (5-5 3PT) and hauled in seven boards.
Parker McLaren (Newburyport, Mass.) and AJ Forte (Peabody, Mass.) both added 13 points.
Max Grenert (Beverly, Mass.) chipped in with a career-high 12 points (5-7 FG, 2-3 3PT) in 15 minutes off the bench.
In the opening 12 minutes, the game saw three ties and two lead changes.
In the final 7:17 of the stanza, Endicott outscored the Nor'Easters, 18-4 to take a 47-33 lead at the break.
Meanwhile, the scoring run was ignited by Montagnino (9), Forte (5), Joey DaSilva (Windham, N.H.) (2), and McLaren (2). The Gulls' defense stymied the UNE offense to one made field goal to end the half.
The hosts cut the visitors' lead to 12 (62-50), but Endicott responded with a 19-2 spurt to extend the lead back to 81-52 with 9:34 to play. The stretch saw seven different student-athletes net a point and was spearheaded by Grenert with seven points.
From there, the Gulls never looked back and captured their seventh straight triumph.
