Rheaume Named CCC Player of the Year

Nov. 7, 2006

BEVERLY, MA - Junior forward Jennifer Rheaume (Blackstone, MA/Blackstone-Millville) was named the 2006 Commonwealth Coast Conference field hockey Player of the Year on Monday.

Rheaume, who was also a first team All-Conference selection, led the Gulls to a 14-5 record as she posted a team high 18 goals and six assists for 42 points. She also was 16th in the NCAA averaging over two points per game and 14th in the country with just over a goal per game.

Rheaume was one of five Gulls receiving All-Conference honors as Caitlin Murray (Templeton, MA/Gardner), Jennifer Beech (Devonshire, Bermuda/Saltas Grammar) and Erin Curry (Hampstead, NH/Gould Academy) all joined Rheaume as first team selections, while Lindsay Fallon (Southampton, NY/Southampton) earned second team All-Conference honors.

Murray was a spark plug for the Gulls offense scoring seven goals and adding six assists for 20 points. She used her excellent speed to move the ball up the field allowing the Gulls to transition from defense to offense very effectively and take advantage of odd man rushes.

Beech, a sophomore back, was the cornerstone of an EC defense that allowed just 23 goals and posted seven shutouts. Her ability to read the field and direct her teammates allowed the Gulls to control the pace and dominate possession.

Curry proved to be the top goaltender in the CCC as she posted four shutouts and 1.76 goals against average. Her .848 save percentage ranked 12th in the nation and her sprawling save of a Salve Regina penalty stroke helped send the Gulls to the CCC Championship game.

Fallon, a senior forward, earned second team honors after she posted 14 goals for 28 points. Her speed and excellent stick handling skills allowed her to move the ball up the field despite pressure from defenders. Fallon's ability to move the ball and score proved to be instrumental to the Gulls success this season.

Second year head coach Breanne Wojnarowicz was also honored as she was named the 2006 Commonwealth Coast Conference Coach of the Year for guiding the Gulls to a 6-1 record in the conference and a trip to the CCC Championship game.

Endicott's lone loss in the CCC regular season came at the hands of New England College, the same team that beat them for the Conference championship. Despite the loss the Gulls were awarded the top seed in the ECAC Tournament. Endicott kicks off the ECAC Tournament on Saturday when they host Worcester State at 1:30 pm on the North Field.
