BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott baseball team defeated Wentworth, 10-3, in non-conference action on Senior Day (Wednesday evening) at North Field.
At the conclusion of the game, Endicott seniors Cooper Anibal (Bedford, N.H.), Justin Bailey (Grafton, Mass.), Kyle Brennan (Wallingford, Conn.), Anthony Macchia (Ridgefield, Conn.), Matthew McKinley (Hudson, N.H.), Nickolas Perkins (Nashua, N.H.), Brennan Quigley (Braintree, Mass.), and Matthew Robida (Chester, Conn.) and graduate students Bradley Baldinger (Massapequa, N.Y.) and Vincent Walker (Burtonsville, Md.) were all honored for their contributions to the program and the College.
Anibal earned the win (2-0, pre-arranged) via three perfect innings and a trio of strikeouts.
Meanwhile, Wentworth reliever Matt Perconti (Hancock, Maine) suffered the loss (0-2) on one inning of work, three hits, two runs (both earned), no free passes, and one punchout.
After taking a 2-0 lead in the second inning behind a two-run homer to right field off Perkins' bat, the Gulls posted a seven-spot in the third and never looked back.
Quigley highlighted the third inning outburst for Endicott with a grand slam to right center to cap the scoring for the Gulls.
Jake Nardone (Wakefield, Mass.) also launched his fifth home run of the season – a two-run shot to right center – while Bailey drew a bases loaded walk to give Endicott a 5-0 lead at the time.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Quigley hit his first career home run in the victory.
- Quigley finished the day going 2-for-4, marking his second and third career hits, in addition to scoring one run and knocking in four.
- The Gulls improved to 45-9 all-time against Wentworth (30-4 at home).
- Endicott is 10-4 at home this season.
- The Gulls' pitching staff took a no-hitter into the fifth inning.
WHAT'S NEXT
Endicott (13-6) will compete in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Tournament this Saturday (if necessary Sunday). Tournament information such as location, opponent, and times will be publicized later this week by the CCC Office.
Wentworth's 2021 season comes to a close at 6-11 overall.
