Baseball Outlasts Gordon In Doubleheader Sweep

Baseball Outlasts Gordon In Doubleheader Sweep

BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott baseball team won a pair of tight conference games against crosstown rival Gordon College, 7-6 and 14-11, on Sunday evening at North Field.

GAME ONE: Endicott 7, Gordon 6

WP: Michael Kozlowski (Cheshire, Conn.) – 6 1/3 IP, 6 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 4 BB, 8 K (career-high)
LP: Andrew Marzetta (Rumford, R.I.) – 4 IP, 10 H, 7 R, 6 ER, 0 BB, 1 K
SV: Noah Therrien (Litchfield, N.H.) – 2/3 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K

Endicott raced out to a 7-0 lead through four innings of play but needed to hold off a furious seventh inning rally from Gordon to come away with the victory.

After a strong outing from Kozlowski, Therrien recorded a pair of high-leverage outs (foul out, strikeout looking) that were sandwiched around two singles for his first career save.

Dylan Pacheco (Dartmouth, Mass.) knocked in a pair of runs to guide the offense, while Joseph Millar (Lake Hopatcong, N.J.), Caleb Shpur (East Canaan, Conn.), Kyle Brennan (Wallingford, Conn.), and Jake Nardone (Wakefield, Mass.) all drove in one run apiece, respectively.

GAME TWO: Endicott 14, Gordon 11

WP: Nicholas Cannata (Marlborough, Conn.) – 5 IP, 8 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 1 BB, 3 K
LP: Jason Bellefuille (Georgetown, Mass.) – 2 IP, 6 H, 7 R, 7 ER, 2 BB, 2 K
SV: Patrick Crowley (Dracut, Mass.) – 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K

Much like game one, the Gulls jumped out to a massive advantage on the scoreboard, this time a 12-3 lead after four, but Gordon didn't go away quietly once again pushing Endicott to the brink before Crowley shut the door in the ninth.

After issuing a leadoff walk in the ninth, Crowley dialed in as the freshman righty induced a fly out to left, a pop up to third, and fanned his final batter to wrap up the sweep and his first career save in emphatic fashion.

Offensively, Millar (3-for-4, 3 R, 1 RBI, 2 BB), Shpur (3-for-6, 2 R, 3 RBI), Pacheco (4-for-5, 3 R, 2 RBI), and Kyle Grabowski (Westfield, Mass.), who went 3-for-4 with four RBI, all collected multi-hit games to fuel the win for the Gulls.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORES

  • Endicott is 6-3 at home this season.
  • Grabowski's four RBI in game two were a career-high.
  • In game two, Pacheco set career-highs for runs scored (3), hits (4), RBI (2, tied), and swiped his first career bag.
