CCC TOURNAMENT: No. 4 Endicott Turns Away No. 5 Wentworth, 13-7

NEWPORT, R.I. — The fourth-seeded Endicott baseball team defeated fifth-seeded Wentworth, 13-7, in game five of the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Tournament on Sunday evening.

With the win, Endicott (26-15) will play first-seeded Salve Regina tomorrow at 3:30 PM. The Gulls will need to beat Salve Regina twice in order to advance to the CCC Championship Series, which will be held next week from May 11-12. The if-necessary game between Endicott and Salve Regina is scheduled for Tuesday at 3:30 PM. Meanwhile, Wentworth sees its 2018 season come to a close at 13-18 overall.

Joseph Oriola (Pembroke, Mass.) picked up the win (4-3) on five innings pitched, three hits, two runs (both earned), four walks, and six strikeouts. Robby Sheldon (Dover, N.H.) suffered the loss via 5 1/3 innings pitched, five hits, four runs (all earned), one walk, and three punchouts.

Nickolas Perkins (Nashua, N.H.) got the Gulls going with a three-run bomb to right field in the fourth, while Brendan McDonald (Quincy, Mass.) and Michael Casciano (Somers, Conn.) extended Endicott's lead to 5-2 with an RBI double and an RBI groundout, respectively, in the sixth inning.

The Gulls then put the game away in the seventh with a seven-run frame, highlighted by another three-run blast from Perkins - which marks his team-leading sixth home run this season.

  • Endicott is 38-9 all-time against Wentworth.
  • The Gulls have won 11 straight versus the Leopards dating back to 5/2/14.
  • Perkins' six home runs this season are tied for sixth all-time in a single season.
