REDLANDS, Calif. – On day two of their tour of Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) teams, the Endicott baseball team suffered a 13-2 loss to 2017 SCIAC finalist No. 14/25 Redlands on Monday evening at The Yard. 

Redlands rushed out to a 4-0 lead after the bottom of the first and got a solid starting pitching performance from senior lefty Noah Jones (San Bernardino, Calif.) to hand Endicott their first loss of the 2018 season. Jones pitching the opening 5 2/3 innings and surrendered only one unearned run on five hits and two walks as he improved to 2-0 on the year. 

In the bottom of the first, after the Bulldogs got two runs on small ball plays, senior outfielder Jordan Babbitt (Highland, Calif.) capped off the four-run frame with a two-run shot to right off Gulls starter sophomore Joseph Oriola (Pembroke, Mass.). 

Redlands would tack on another run in the bottom of the fourth on a RBI double to left center off the bat of senior outfielder Kyle Kabeary (Indio, Calif.) to make it a 5-0 game before Endicott got on the board in the top of the sixth. Gulls freshman third baseman Jacob Thibault (Methuen, Mass.) hit a single through the left side of the infield and on an error by the left fielder, freshman Nickolas Perkins (Nashua, N.H.) was able to round third and plate Endicott's first run of the game. 

The Bulldogs got a pair of two-RBI hits in bottom of the seventh by senior Brendan Gardiner (Mission Viejo, Calif.) and junior Aaron Singh (Anaheim, Calif.) to push the Redlands advantage up to 9-1 and put the game out of reach. Endicott freshman Matthew McKinley (Hudson, N.H.) grounded into bases loaded, 4-6-3 double play which allowed Perkins to cross the plate for the second time for the Gulls' final run of the game.

Redlands would add four final runs in the bottom of the eighth thanks to a two-RBI double by Bart In den Kleef (Oosterhout, Netherlands) and another two-RBI hit by Singh to cap off the scoring. 

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

• This was the first-ever meeting between Endicott and Redlands
• Oriola, despite taking the loss, struck out seven batters in his five innings pitched
• Both seniors Michael Casciano (Somers, Conn.) and Brad Rebello (Bellingham, Mass.) had doubles in the game.
• Casciano led the Gulls with two hits and a walk in four trips to the plate.
• Senior Michael DeDonato (Chelmsford, Mass.) had his second and third stolen bases of the year.

FOR THE FOES

• Singh went 2-of-5 with five RBIs to lead Redlands.
• Three other batters had multiple RBIs and four players had multi-hit performances.
• The Redlands bullpen finished off Jones' starting pitching effort by going 3 1/3 innings with one earned run on two hits and one walk allowed. 
• Redlands stolen five stolen bases in the win with Kabeary swiping three bags and senior Will Hall (Seattle, Wash.) taking two.

Endicott (3-1) returns to their spring break schedule tomorrow at 5:00 PM when they visit Pomona-Pitzer (13-4, 5-1 SCIAC) at Alumni Field. No. 14/25 Redlands (14-4, 7-2 SCIAC) hosts Ithaca and Rutgers-Newark on Friday at 11:00 AM and 2:30 PM.
