BEVERLY, Mass. – No. 30 Endicott split a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) doubleheader against Nichols on Sunday afternoon.
GAME ONE: Nichols 7, No. 30 Endicott 6
Nichols got on the board first to take a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the 1st before the Gulls saw three runs score in the fifth inning to gain the upper hand. The Bison responded, however, to cut the lead to 3-2 in the bottom of the fifth.
Endicott tallied three more runs in the sixth but it wasn't enough as Nichols was able to tack on five runs in its final two at-bats.
Leading the Gulls offensively was Matthew McKinley (Hudson, N.H.) who went 3-for-3 at the plate. Kyle Brennan (Wallingford, Conn.) and Brad Rebello (Bellingham, Mass.) recorded two RBI each throughout the contest.
GAME TWO: Endicott 4, Nichols 2
Endicott bounced back in the second game to earn the series split.
The Bison struck first with a run in the second inning, but the Gulls would go on to score in the third, fourth, and fifth innings to take a 3-1 lead heading into the final frames of play.
Nichols attempted a late rally in the seventh but the Endicott defense stood strong to secure the victory.
Kyle Wollman (East Berlin, Conn.) earned his first win of the season as he pitched five innings with three strikeouts, four hits, and one run allowed. Will Bryant (Cumberland, Maine) finished out the game to earn his ninth save of the year.
WHAT'S NEXT
No. 30 Endicott (18-11, 6-6 CCC) travels to MIT on Tuesday, April 24 for a 3:30 PM contest. Nichols (10-24, 4-8 CCC) travels to Saint Joseph's (Maine) for a 5 PM game on Thursday, April 26.
