SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Endicott sophomore Maxine Bergstein (Hingham, Mass.) and freshman Hayley Barnett (Marlboro, N.J.) have been named the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively, by the league office for their performances last week during the CCC Tournament.
Bergstein clinched the Gulls' fifth straight CCC Championship title last Saturday with a 7-5, 6-4 triumph at No. 5 singles over her opponent from Roger Williams who was 12-0 on the season at the time. Overall during the CCC Tournament, Bergstein went 2-0 at No. 5 singles.
Barnett was 3-0 in the CCC Tournament, which included a 2-0 mark at No. 2 doubles with teammate Margot Andreasen (Portland, Maine). In the CCC Championship match, Barnett claimed a 6-1, 6-2 victory against Roger Williams in the No. 1 singles slot to help the Gulls to their fifth straight CCC title.
During their current championship run, the Gulls have compiled a 76-21 overall record (.784 winning percentage), a 37-3 record in CCC matches (.930 winning percentage), and also captured two CCC regular season championships.
