Women's Tennis Extends Regular Season CCC Winning Streak To 11 Matches Against WNEU

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Endicott women's tennis team extended its regular season CCC winning streak to 11 straight matches with a 7-2 triumph over Western New England University (WNEU) on Saturday afternoon.

Endicott entered singles play with a 2-1 lead at the conclusion of its doubles matches taking the No. 2 and No. 3 positions from the Golden Bears.

Freshmen Margot Andreasen (Portland, Maine) and Alexi Losano (Saugus, Mass.) breezed to an 8-1 decision at No.2 doubles, while classmates Reilly Fitzgibbons (Killingworth, Conn.) and Lauren Rahr (Waterford, Conn.) claimed a decisive 8-1 victory at No. 3.

Junior Mackenzie Rhodes (Rye, N.H.) and sophomore Maxine Bergstein (Hingham, Mass.) nearly completed the sweep in doubles, but came up just short against WNEU's No. 1 pairing of Lauren Sell (Milford, Conn.) and Joeanna Gantz (Agawam, Mass.).

In singles action, Andreasen, Fitzgibbons and Rahr all won their respective matches to pick up a pair of victories on the day, while Rhodes claimed a 6-0, 6-1 decision at No. 5 and freshman Gillian Freter (Scituate, Mass.) turned in a 6-0, 6-1 triumph at No. 4.

"Today was a great win for the team," said women's tennis head coach Jeremy Howard. "It's always good to get that first win under your belt, especially in conference play. We'll enjoy 48 hours off from tennis before getting back to work on Monday to prepare for a busy week with three matches on the schedule."

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Endicott has not lost a conference match since September 29, 2013. The Gulls were edged by Nichols, 5-4, on the road.

WHATS UP NEXT

Endicott (1-1, 1-0 CCC) hosts Bridgewater State University on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. After their match with the Bears, the Gulls will play Salve Regina University (Sept. 10, 3:30 p.m.) and Roger Williams (Sept. 12, 12:00 p.m.) to round out their week of matches. WNEU (1-1, 0-1 CCC) travels to Roger Williams on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
